Here is a quick update to share some recent highlights from the school as well as upcoming events ….
Promoting Healthy Active Kids!
TEC participated in the Winter Walk Day, an event which took place across Canada. At Tecumseh we took this opportunity to come together as a school community, and also promote a healthy active lifestyle with our students.
Students sampled two different types of infused water and the students were asked to select their favourite recipe. “Watermelon Mint” was the winner! This recipe will be our school’s entry for the infused water taste test challenge at the Burlington Mall on March 15. We would like to thank the TEC Parent Council, and our Public Health Nurse [Ms. DeMaria] for their support making this event a great success!Extracurricular Opportunities are an important part of promoting a healthy lifestyle—over 50 of our older students participated in a day of skiing at Mt St Louis Moonstone and this past month included the badminton season and start of the basketball teams.
All of our grade 1-8 students are also currently enjoying club and sport options such as ‘Beach Volleyball’ , ‘Games Club’, ‘Yoga’ , Debate Club’, ‘Newcomb Ball’ and the ‘Green Screen Video Club’ at Recess with more options planned in the Spring.
Making A Difference!
….Acts of Kindness
In early February, classes paired up to make special cards as a means of spreading ‘acts of kindness’ in our community; bringing a smile to the faces of others and offering thanks. Recipients included senior citizens in our neighbourhood, and Canadian Veterans, as well as patients at McMaster Sick Kids Hospitals. It was also an opportunity to say thank-you to those who work to make a difference for our school community— Port Nelson United Church , Burlington, EastView and Charles Beaudoin School.
…..Charity Event for the Halton Learning Foundation
Two 'spirit building' events to support the HLF are planned for this Thursday, March 2. Our primary students will be invited to participate in a “squirrel/nut” staff vs students game during period 4 while older students will be able to watch a teacher - student basketball game during Period 5. Students and their families are asked to consider supporting this worthwhile charity by bringing a 'toonie' or any small change to school this week to support the HLF - an organization that provides funds to Tecumseh for new technology and library resources, new sports and recess equipment, as well as basic necessities to many Tecumseh families. Thank you for helping to make a difference!
Most recently each class in the school received a short introduction to the role of the Classroom Eco Captain. Each class was asked to select 2 students who will be the first pair of Eco Captains. These students will have the opportunity to help their classmates with the composting / recycling needs in their classroom. The Eco Club is up and running at full speed and have many exciting things to share.
